The world of Obron is blooming
The old world is being reborn. The Age of Steel and Stone has faded, and Obron enters its dusk. Carve masks from godswood and become Thorns of the garden.
THORN is a game that means a great deal to me. It's the fantasy game I would want to sit down and play with my friends. It's pretty different than a lot of other games out there, and even from a lot of my own previous work. This game was a seedling in my mind for so long, and now it's finally time for it to bloom.
What is THORN?
THORN is a fantasy TTRPG. It requires a group of players, one of which will be the GM. You only need a simple character sheet to play.
There are two important features of THORN:
- Diceless. The game does not use dice to resolve actions. It focuses on collaborative storytelling and resource management to move the game forward.
- Healthless. Enemies die in one hit. Some require creativity and problem solving to earn that one hit.
In THORN you take on the role of Thorns. To be a Thorn is to wear a mask carved from trees fed on the blood of dead gods. Those masks grant you incredible powers.
They also change you.
THORN is built using LUMEN 2.0, which means it is a diceless game focused on resource management, creativity, and puzzle solving instead of randomization. Your Thorns are very adept adventurers, but even the most grizzled veterans get worn down by the wear and tear and exploration. Deciding when and how to spend the resources of your body sits at the center of the game.
In combat, all enemies die in a single hit. There are some that have narrative defenses that must be overcome. These do not have a single solution, but instead are opportunities for the Thorns to think creatively about the skills and equipment they have with them. How will the overcome the thick armor plating of that orc warboss? What tools do they have to break the warlock's runic defenses?
